Hello! My name is Kara Billington, I am a recent University of Idaho graduate with a bachelors degree in Film & Television Studies, an emphasis in Broadcast & Digital Media, and a minor in Marketing.
I have always been very interested in movies and television, the film industry, and the video production process. When I'm not working on a photography or videography project, I enjoy watching TV and movies, reading, board games, baking, and traveling.
I am currently the Digital Media Assistant Producer at the University of Idaho where I produce, film, and edit videos for the University Communication and Marketing department.
Through my education and work experience, I have gained knowledge in the production process, camera operation, and video editing. In addition, I have used programs such as Adobe Premier, Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, as well as Final Cut Pro X. Some of the relevant courses I took include Digital Media Field Production, Broadcast News, Video Editing, Design for the Media, Marketing, Promotional Strategies, Consumer Behavior, and Media Campaign Strategy- the university's Advertising Team. In summer 2016, I participated in a job shadow at KLEW Television/News Station in Lewiston, Idaho. In fall 2016, I was hired as a photography intern by the Office of Undergraduate Research for the Vandals in Focus publication. In January 2017, I was given the opportunity to intern as a production assistant on the production of the independent Hollywood film, The Last Champion, which was filmed in and around Moscow, Idaho. In winter 2017 I was hired as a multimedia journalist for the University of Idaho's student newspaper, The Argonaut. In summer 2017 I was hired as a video production intern by ROOT Sports Northwest in Seattle where I assisted with video production work for the broadcast of Mariners Baseball including some social media managing, and interview logging. I also was in charge of running teleprompter, some graphic elements, and robo cameras during the broadcast. During this internship, I created a 45-second music video to be used in the Mariners All Access show. I also assisted with ROOT Sports' production of the Northwest 9 docuseries by helping with audio and GoPro cameras. And in November 2017, I worked as a production assistant during the filming of the movie Mischief Upon Mischief where I assisted with the production as well as filmed behind-the-scenes footage for bonus material for the film and for promotional purposes. For the spring semester of 2018, I was hired as a Video Marketing Intern for the University of Idaho's College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS) where I planned, created, shot, and edited promotional videos for the college and it's individual departments, as well as monthly vlogs featuring CLASS’s faculty, staff, and events. For this internship, I was also responsible for creating recruitment videos for the college.
I graduated in May 2018 with a 3.4 GPA and received the Outstanding Senior in Radio & Television Award from the School of Journalism & Mass Media.
